Blah, Blah, Blah…Why Should You Care?

When reading a company’s advertisements about their expertise and process we can become overwhelmed and confused with industry buzz words like “best practices”, “proven methodologies”, and interminable acronyms which vary widely depending on which industry you are discussing.

For example, VHD can refer to a “virtual hard disk”, “video high density”, “volumetric haptic display” (say, what?), or even a rabbit haemorrhagic disease known as ”Viral Haemorrhagic Disease”.

Pretty soon, our minds glaze over and we haven’t absorbed a single piece of information that writers and marketers labored over for hours in an attempt to sell you their products and services.

So, why should you care if a company pays attention to and utilizes “best practices”? If we’re looking for creative thinkers, why should we consider someone who works with “proven methodologies”? What does it matter if a complex project is approached with a method known as a “product life cycle”, or PLC? Best practices can also be defined as the most efficient and effective way of accomplishing a task, based on repeatable procedures that have proven themselves over time for large numbers of people.
